HonorRae Shih Tzu

Our Story

Who Are We?

Welcome!

My name is Sarae, pronounced Suh-Ray, and I am the owner of HonorRae Shih Tzu! The name “HonorRae” comes from a mixture of my daughter’s name (Honor) and My name. (Rae) My daughter and I have a love for animals, and we wanted to start this venture together! So we began with two adorable Shih Tzu sisters, Bonnie and Basil, whom we quickly fell head over heels in love with.

From childhood dreams to a reality.

Ever since I was a little girl, I have had a deep love for dogs. If we went over to anyone’s house that had a dog, that is pretty much all I cared about. I wanted to be with the dog, play with the dog, and cuddle the dog!

Early on, I fell in love with my grandma’s dog, Buffy. He was a beautiful and cuddly Lhasa Apso who seemed to love me just as much as I loved him.

As I got older I started to grow an interest in Yorkshire Terriers, and ended up having a few of them in my teen years and early 20’s. I also developed a love for Golden Retrievers, and gave it a go raising a litter, but even though Goldens are my favorite large breed, my heart truly belongs to small breeds. Somewhere along the line, between my husband having a Shih Tzu when I was dating him, and having a Shih Tzu cross in my life, I became passionate about the Shih Tzu breed. I just loved everything about them!

A program begins!

I knew since I was very young that I wanted to responsibly breed and raise dogs someday, but I waited for many years until the right timing in life came along. While waiting for the right time, I learned from others who raised dogs, and did years worth of research. I also raised other animals like Chickens, and Nigerian Dwarf Goats!

Raising dogs in an ethical way takes an incredible amount of time, dedication, sacrifice, passion, grit, and yes, money. It is not a cheap venture! I wanted to be sure we could handle the expenses of investing in nice dogs, getting health testing, proper space and set up for them within our home, proper amount of time to give them, which, for me, means staying home and not working outside the home, and proper medical care and reserves for emergencies.

With the help of my family, I am finally in the position to do this in the way that I have always wanted to. We are so excited to be raising Shih Tzu, and to bring others the immense joy that this breed has brought to us!!

Me with one of my favorite Nigerian Dwarf Goats when I raised them. Her name was Peachy!

Our Philosophy

Shih Tzu were originally bred to be companion dogs, and that is what they are still bred for to this day. For this reason, health, temperament, and well adjusted dogs are our top priorities within our program. Our desire is to breed dogs that will make wonderful companions and family members for many years to come!

We believe giving puppies the best start in life sets them up for success in their new homes. What that looks like is: Health tested parents, ENS & ESI, Puppy curriculum for them to build their skills, muscles, and confidence, Early socialization, and Early desensitization. Early potty training help with designated litter boxes, and Early crate training practice to get used to this being a safe space. We incorporate all of this and more into our program!

We encourage you to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, where you can learn more about us and how we run our program!

Vacation!

We love taking our dogs along on trips with us whenever we can. They are truly members of our family. ❤️
