Puppy Questions
Our Puppies cost between $2500 – $3000 for AKC Limited Registration (This means pet only/without breeding rights)
We do not allow puppy visits until after they have had their 8 week vaccinations with our veterinarian.
Our puppies are almost always reserved in advance, so it is unlikely we will have vaccinated puppies available for you to meet and choose from.
We accept deposits to reserve puppies after you have seen photos and videos of them!
This is for the puppy’s safety, and our family’s safety.
Unfortunately, in this day and age, there are bigger risks to allowing people into our homes as breeders. There have been sad occurrences of people posing as puppy buyers to “scope out” a home, adult dogs, or litters, for the reason of coming back for theft, or even for harm.
There is also the safety of our young puppies and nursing mothers to consider. Puppies have extremely delicate immune systems. Diseases like Parvo or Distemper can be devastating and lethal to a litter of unvaccinated puppies.
As much as our dogs would LOVE to meet you, please understand that these are the precautions that we feel we need to take in order to keep our adult dogs, puppies, and our family safe.
You will be allowed to come to our home, at a scheduled time and date, when your puppy is ready for pickup. This will be sometime between 8-12 weeks of age.
We hope this does not cause any offense, we recognize that most people are GOOD and we LOVE our HonorRae Families. We just must take precautions. This is for the health and safety of your future puppy as well!
We LOVE to share updates of your puppy with you however, and will share many pictures, videos, and can schedule weekly FaceTime calls as well for you to virtually “visit” your new family member. We are also very active on social media, so you can keep up with what your puppy is up to on our platforms as well! 😊
Visit the “Our Process” page to learn more about how to reserve your puppy! But the simple steps are these:
- Application
- Signing Contract
- Send $100 Reservation fee for waiting list or $500 reservation fee for an available puppy.
- Be placed on waiting list, or choose from available listed puppies on our website!
I’m glad you asked! 😊
Please visit our “Why choose an HonorRae Shih Tzu Puppy?” Page for all that we provide with your new puppy, and all that we do for our dogs, our puppies, and our program in general.
We take this puppy raising gig very seriously, and we want our puppies to get the best start in life, and have wonderful long lives with their new families.
Raising dogs in a responsible, loving, and ethical way is quite costly, and very time consuming. Here at HonorRae Shih Tzu, we go above and beyond in the care for our animals. This is why our prices are what they are. We want to be able to to run our program in the best way possible for our beloved dogs, and for our future families who will bring one of our dogs into their homes and into their lives!
Currently we could have a variation of reds, golds, sables, blacks, or parti colored puppies (like black and white or red and white etc) Next year we will be able to have a variety of liver (chocolate) colored puppies as well when our second stud is old enough! There is a chance for Dobie marked puppies also with one of our studs and one of our dams. We are always excited to see what we get!
Sometimes. On a case by case basis, and after an extensive interview and approval process.
Most puppies will be sold on a spay/neuter contract.
AKC Breed Standards say that a Shih Tzu should be between 9 and 16lbs full grown.
I strive to stay within the standard as much as possible, but I do aim for small standards. I like my adults to be between 8 and 12lbs. However, I cannot guarantee they will be any specific size.
I do not purposefully breed for imperials or teacups, but sometimes nature just has it’s way and a smaller puppy is produced!
Payments
This is entirely up to you!
PAID WAITLIST – The paid waitlist gives you a guaranteed spot in line to choose from a puppy either from a specific litter, or just the next available puppies.
People on the paid waiting list have gone through the application process and may choose a puppy based on the order that the reservation fees were received. You may also be on a waiting list for a specific litter if you wish to be! If you want a girl from a specific litter and no girl is born, you may stay on the waiting list until a girl is born from a different litter that you would like. You will be left in your place in line on the waiting list for up to a year. If a year goes by and no decision on a puppy is made, then you will be moved to our “I will contact you when I am ready” waiting list. You will not lose you reservation fee, but you will lose your spot in line until you tell me you are ready to choose a puppy again and then you can get back in the line behind the others on the paid list. I will not contact you about available puppies when you are on that list.
When you are on the paid waitlist, I will contact you about available puppies when it is your turn in line. After I have contacted you about available puppies, you will have 48 hours from the time that I contacted you to let me know if you would like to reserve a puppy or not. If I do not hear back within 48 hours, I will move on to the next person on the list. I often times wont start offering puppies to people on my waitlist until the puppies are 4 plus weeks old so I can begin to see their personality and structure traits.
*If you should choose to not get a puppy with us at all after you have paid the reservation fee, then you forfeit this fee and it will not be refunded.
*If I do not hear back from you at all after continually contacting you about available puppies after 6 months, I will assume you are not ready and I will move you to the “I will contact you when ready” list.
FREE WAITLIST – This waitlist still requires you to fill out our application, but it is completely free to be on. However, our paid waiting list will always be given priority over the free waitlist. So if a litter is born and there are only three puppies and I have multiple people on the paid waitlist, there is a good chance you will not be able to choose a puppy from that litter unless many others on the paid waitlist pass on a puppy. When you are on the free waitlist this means that you have passed the application process, and I will contact you when I have available puppies after everyone on the paid waitlist has chosen a puppy first. Because this is a free waitlist, I will send you an announcement if there are available puppies one time, but the puppies are still first come first serve when you are on the free waitlist. This means that if I contact you, but someone else inquires, fills out an application, and pays the puppy reservation fee first before I hear back from you, then they will receive the puppy. You may stay on the free waitlist and wait for another, or you may choose to be on the paid waitlist instead at anytime if you know for sure you’d like one of our puppies!
*If I reach out to you about an available puppy and you need just a little time to think over it, I will give you 24 hours to think it over before I let someone else reserve the puppy. But you must let me know right away that you would like a bit of time to think.
*If I reach out to you multiple times about available puppies and you either do not respond, or do not choose a puppy within a years time, you will be removed from our free waitlist.
- If you change your mind and do not want to get a puppy from us at all after you have paid the reservation fee, then it is non refundable. This fee is to guarantee your spot in line, or guarantee you a specific puppy. Please make sure you are fully committed to getting one of our puppies before paying the reservation fee.
- If you change your mind about a specific puppy and the puppy is under 6 weeks of age, then we can talk about transferring the reservation fee to a different available puppy, or to a future litter, but the decision must be made within the next 2 litters or the fee will be forfeited entirely.
- If you are on the waiting list for a specific pup, example – a female – you will remain on the waiting list until a female is born and you are the next in line. If you do not want the female that is offered at your turn, you will remain on the list until the next female is born and the current one will be offered to the next person waiting on the list.
- If you remain on the list for a year without making a decision on a puppy, you will be moved to our “contact when ready” list. You will not lose your reservation fee, but it will lose your spot in line. We will not contact you anymore about available puppies, we will wait until you contact us that you are ready, then you will be placed back in line behind the others that have paid and are waiting.
- If WE decide to not move ahead with the sale of a puppy after the reservation fee has already been paid, then we will return the reservation fee.
I accept Cash, Stripe, or payment through Good Dog if a puppy is listed there. Please be aware that Good Dog charges extra fees. So if the puppy is purchased through that site, the pricing will be slightly higher.
When you apply for our paid waitlist, or when you apply for an available puppy through our website, an invoice will automatically be e-mailed to you and is able to be paid online through Stripe. There is a 3% credit card fee if you use a card through this process.
You may send me a check in the mail for the initial holding fees but I do not accept checks for final payments.
I do not accept money orders.
Final payment at puppy pick up we strongly prefer in cash, but you may pay through Stripe as well as long as the payment is completed 2 weeks prior to puppy pick up or delivery.
A non-refundable $100.00 reservation fee is needed as soon as your application has been approved for you to be added to the waiting list.
A total of $500 reservation fee is due once you know which puppy you would like to reserve. This will hold that specific puppy for you. If you were already on the waiting list your original $100 fee will go towards this $500 fee.
*This fee DOES go towards your total purchase price of your puppy!*
The remaining balance of your puppy is either due at pick up in cash OR through Stripe in an invoice that I will send to you. If paying through stripe it must be completed 2 weeks prior to puppy pick up. If you are getting your puppy transported with a flight nanny, it is also due through Stripe, or another approved payment method previously discussed, 2 weeks prior to your puppy being delivered. (This will usually be around 6-8 weeks old depending on how long your puppy is staying with me.)
We are honored to give a $200.00 discount to:
- Returning HonorRae Shih Tzu families! We LOVE when our families want to add a 2nd, 3rd, maybe even a 4th HonorRae Shih Tzu to their family! 😆 Great families mean the world to us.
- Active Duty and Retired Military Veterans. We thank you for your sacrifice and service to our country. ❤️
Puppy’s Life with YOU!
Puppies are usually ready to go to their new homes between 8 and 10 weeks of age. Typically closer to 8 unless the puppy is very small, or needs more time transitioning to solid foods. Occasionally a puppy may need to wait until 12 weeks of age if they are exceptionally tiny.
I do not deliver puppies myself usually, as I typically just have too much to take care of at home to take too many long distance trips.
I do have someone who would likely be willing to be a puppy driving or flight nanny if needed, but this will come with additional costs that she would charge for her time and mileage.
There are also trusted flight nanny services that we could potentially work with if it is agreed upon by all parties involved.
Any extra costs associated with the puppies transportation process are the buyers responsibility.
100% absolutely. Forever breeder support. If you have a question or concern, I am here. If you just want to send me fun updates, PLEASE do, you will never bother me with pictures or videos or updates of your HonorRae pup! I LOVE updates!
If a scenario comes up where you cannot keep your HonorRae Shih Tzu, I will always take them back. No questions asked unless you want to share. In most cases, I cannot offer a refund for this, but they will always have a place to come back to if needed.
In SOME cases, I will be able to offer a small, partial refund, if I can find the pup a new home quickly and easily with a rehoming fee. But the costs of my time, housing/boarding the dog with me, any training necessary before rehoming, any veterinarian care needed before rehoming, and any marketing or other costs associated with rehoming will be deducted from the refund.
*Please do not take them to a shelter, ever. This is also in my contract.
All puppies will have an AKC Limited Registration. This means pet only, no breeding rights. Registrations will be sent to the buyer after proof of spay/neuter has been received.
YES!
We believe in MicroChipping all of our puppies here at HonorRae Shih Tzu. They will be registered to us, and you can register them to you as well for FREE, so that you will be contacted first if something happens and they are found, and I will be contacted second if they are unable to get ahold of you.
This helps protect our puppies from being lost, or from being put in a shelter without our knowledge. It also proves ownership if heaven forbid a dog is ever stolen and you are able to figure out who took them and take them to court.
